Surving with Family

My mother, Nancy Rosell is a long term cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in 1996 with ovarian cancer and since has had Lymphoma B several times several places, which was diagnosed in 2003. She has had numerous Chemo treatments since 1996 but continues the fight against all odds. Her Oncologist is amazed by her survival having gone through so much Chemo but yet she continues.
My mother has lived with my husband and I since 2003 at which time we bought a home that would give her privacy. She has her own Library, bedroom and bathroom. We made a small flower garden that has a fountain which she maintains. The idea is to give her some freedom along with some responsibilities so that she does not feel like a burden. She has 3 great grandchildren that live by us,ages 2, 4 and 6 which she loves very much. Having family around gives her a will to survive gives her that fight for life. Without family and friends I think she may not have fought so hard. Although the Chemo days keep her sick and confined to her bed at times, she still fights. This Friday is her great grandsons, age six, very first part in a play and she will be attending. Sure she gets depressed and questions why continue treatment when it makes her so ill but yet she does and maybe it is for days just like her great grandsons play.
So I say to those who have cancer, fight, fight for life, fight for family. She pretty much has cancer cells that pop up every year and every year she goes through Chemo treatment. She is scheduled for hopefully the last of 5 on the 22nd of May. She will and has numerous blood tests and then the Petscan to determine if the chemo has once again kept it from growing. She goes through this every year just to keep the cells from growing and every year she does just that. There is that Love that binds us together the Love of a FAMILY. God Bless each and everyone! I wrote a poem for my mother that I would like to share with all of you.
POEM OF COURAGE AND STRENGTH
MY MOM: She came to us standing tall and strong
With her bright red hair and perfect smile
She came to us to help her live and bond
She fights everyday for her life With hundreds of trips over these last four years to numerous Dr. visits and Chemo therapy
She has without a doubt fought hard and strong
So when I sit and watch her frail frame walk by I think back to when she first came
With her bright red hair and perfect smile
What I see now just makes me want to cry
Because what I see now is a woman without her bright red hair and that perfect smile
What I see now is that woman I want to be.

I had both my breasts removed entirely, and had six rounds of chemo to rid my body of that nasty disease that would otherwise have taken my life from me.
